Staff Availability

Please note that appointments are encouraged to make sure a librarian is available to meet with you.

 

Fall and Spring semester Greenfield hours (Learning Commons at SJU in Lancaster):
Monday–Friday: 5:30 a.m.–11:00 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday: 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
 

Space only staffed Monday–Friday: 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. with other hours available by appointment

About the Library - Brief Overview

OVERVIEW

The Health Sciences Library is a hub within the College and Hospital's learning community, providing access to current, authoritative resources that support scholarship and practice.  Access to all of the Library’s licensed online resources (electronic journals, eBooks, and databases) is available through the PCHS or LGH networks and remotely.

The Learning Commons is located at the College campus on Greenfield Road; the Health Sciences Library is located in the James Street Lobby, Lancaster General Hospital.

MEMBERSHIPS HELD BY THE LIBRARY

The library holds memberships in the Medical Library Association (MLA), the Central Pennsylvania Health Sciences Library Association (CPHSLA), Associated College Libraries of Central Pennsylvania (ACLCP), and the Basic Health Sciences Library Network (BHSL). We are proud to be a full member of the NLM's National Network of Libraries of Medicine, which qualifies us to participate in the Docline interlibrary loan system, as well as in national and regional initiatives supported by the National Library of Medicine.

THE FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)[20 U.S.C. §1029(f) and 20 U.S.C. §1232(g) is the federal statute that protects the privacy of  student education records and prohibits the release of student information to third parties, including the student's parents, without the student’s consent. Examples of information that may not be made public include: grades, transcripts, social security numbers, gender, race, ethnicity.

“Directory information” is not protected under FERPA regulations and may be shared. Directory information may include the student’s name, address, telephone number and email address, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, dates of attendance, degree and awards received, most recent previous educational agency or institution attended by the student, enrollment status and other information.
