Suggestions:

1. Summon is looking for results that match all the words you put in the search box.  Try different phrases to describe your subject.  You might have more luck searching for some words than others.
2. If you are not getting many results, try removing one of your search terms to expand your search.
3. If there are words that you want to show up together in a search result, such as "pet therapy", try searching for that phrase in quotation marks.  Otherwise you will get results that just mention those words independently in a result such as an article on physical therapy for your pet.
4. By placing NOT in front of a word, Summon will remove any articles listing the word you listed.  This can be helpful in removing articles you are not interested in seeing.  For example, if you were looking for information on diabetes, but not diabetes in children, you could search for diabetes NOT children.
5. The limiters on the left-hand side will help you focus your search to the criteria you mark.

Logging in:

• You will not see a login screen until you try to click on an item the library pays for.
• You can login with your PA College email address and password.

There are various writing assistance options available to you.

• Writing Assistance (in Starfish): Schedule an appointment for assistance in Starfish.  You can select an available time that works into your schedule to meet with someone from our writing assistance team.
• Drop-in tutoring: Check out this Academic Support calendar for drop-in tutoring sessions, which includes writing assistance.
• Tutor.com (in Canvas): This is an online tutoring service that provides on-demand tutoring and the option to submit your writing for feedback. In Canvas, look for Tutor.com in your course menu.
• SJU Writing Center: From the April 2, 2024 This Week email, "Students can also utilize writing support through the SJU Writing Center, which offers in-person, synchronous online and asynchronous eTutoring appointments six days a week across four schedules – two on Hawk Hill, one at UCity, and one for eTutoring. Lancaster writers can select remote tutoring options on any of those schedules. Tutors from a variety of majors can assist with any type of writing at any stage of the process, including help with grammar and source citations. They are also trained to work with multilingual and neurodivergent writers and those with learning differences. Here is a link to the Writing Center website, where you can learn more about the Writing Center’s services for both students and faculty as well as make an appointment."

You can self-schedule an appointment in Starfish.

1. Go to Canvas or myPortal
2. Click on Starfish
3. This should take you to the My Success Network page. If not, choose My Success Network from the menu (look for the three lines on the top left to open the menu.)
4. In the Health Sciences Library box, select schedule appointment.
