PA Forward: Basic Literacy

The Learning Commons is a proud participant in the Pennsylvania Library Association's PA Forward initiative. Learn more about that initiative on this guide.

Basic Literacy

Basic literacy is meant to enhance the basic reading and writing skills of the community. These basic skills are needed to successfully complete your education and to continue to develop your critical thinking skills.

PaLA's mission: "We envision a Pennsylvania with one of the highest literacy rates in the country, a trained and skilled workforce, and a growing economy, tax base, and population."

Common Book Program

The purpose of a Common Book is to build bridges between experiences we share no matter what our field of scholarship or course of study. The Common Book program will include programming tied to the themes of the book. Our hope with this program is to engage the college community in larger discussions about relevant topics in healthcare. Those interested in participating will all read the same book and engage in meaningful dialog around the themes and content of that book.
