This guide provides a general overview of library services and resources as well as videos and links to help you get started with your research.

The Health Sciences Library serves Lancaster General Hospital and associated medical and practice groups as well as the Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences. Librarians have hours at both locations, and can be reached by telephone or email at both locations Monday - Friday. Appointments can be made outside of regular hours.

Staff Availability

Please note that appointments are encouraged to make sure a librarian is available to meet with you.

 

Fall and Spring semester Greenfield hours (Learning Commons at SJU in Lancaster):
Monday–Friday: 5:30 a.m.–11:00 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday: 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
 

Space only staffed Monday–Friday: 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. with other hours available by appointment

How can the library help you?

Here is a brief overview of how the library can help you with your research and clinical decision making.

  • The library provides electronic access to numerous books, journals, and evidence-based, clinical support tools. 
     
  • The library also provides a small collection of print journals and books. Print books may be checked out, and topics include health sciences and leadership. 
    • Find print books in the library by visiting our home page and selecting "Find Library Resources in Print."
       
  • Electronic catalogs found on the library’s website allow you to search our print and electronic books and journals right from your computer or mobile device.
    • Find eJournals by visiting our home page and selecting "Find a Journal."
    • Find eBooks by visiting our home page and selecting "Find eBooks."
       
  • The library at James Street has computers with Microsoft Office applications and access to LGH applications, a black and white printer, and a scanner/copier/fax you may use. Physicians may access the library outside of regular hours; ask security for access.
     
  • Librarians can help you refine your search topic, develop your search terms, and navigate our databases. We have also developed a guide to help you perform your own literature searches: http://pacollege.libguides.com/literaturesearches
  • Librarians can provide individual or department training on our resources either at the library or at your location. We will gladly come to you or arrange virtual training.
     
  • Our interlibrary loan system allows us to order articles from other libraries for you; this can be done at no charge to you. 

Logging in to access library resources

In order to access library resources, you need to login using OpenAthens, a system that allows us to authenticate your affiliation with the library.  

PA College users -log in using your college email address and password.

Penn Medicine LGH users - log in using your LGH username and password.
