Testing and Proctoring Policy

Testing and Proctoring Policy

The Learning Commons provides testing and proctoring. Please read the policies below for more information.

Testing

Testing rooms are reserved by faculty for test taking purposes. There are two testing rooms located in the Learning Commons – room 1087 and room 1088.  Each room provides a computer with Internet access and a built in camera.

Faculty will be responsible for monitoring the student during the exam. Testing rooms are available 5:30am – 11:30pm. To book a testing room please follow the directions located here: Room Resource Booking Directions

Faculty must book the testing room online just as they would book any other classroom – please do not call to book a testing room.

Exam Proctoring

There are two proctoring rooms located in the Learning Commons – room 1075 and room 1076. Proctoring rooms are available during Learning Commons’ hours 8:00am – 5:00pm. If an exam that is scheduled to be proctored must be canceled, the Learner Support Specialist will reach out to you as far in advance as possible to reschedule.

In the event of inclement weather, the Learning Commons follows the College’s opening/closing schedule. Please feel free to call Learner Support Specialist Elizabeth Ashley at 717-947-6113 to confirm your scheduled exam or to let her know if you cannot make it for due to the weather.

Exam proctoring for PA College students

Proctoring rooms are for students who have accommodations; test proctoring offered by the Learning Commons is not a substitute for faculty proctoring their own regularly scheduled or make-up exams. Students must notify faculty of the need for accommodations at least two weeks prior to the exam. Accommodations will not be implemented until the faculty or staff member has received a copy of the approved form with the ADA/504 Coordinator’s approval from the student. It is the student’s responsibility to distribute copies of this form to faculty and/or staff who have the obligation to provide the accommodations.

Faculty should book the room as far in advance of the exam as possible. These rooms are booked by faculty, but the test will be administered by a Learner Support Specialist. To book a proctoring room please follow the directions located here: Room Resource Booking Directions.

If you have any special requests or circumstances when booking the room, please contact Learner Support Specialist. Elizabeth Ashley.

Please note that if the student's accommodations require the exam be read out loud to the student, it will be the responsibility of the faculty member to either proctor the exam or arrange for another faculty member to proctor the exam. This ensures students hear the correct pronunciation of all health sciences terms.

When booking a proctoring room please include the following in your email booking response:

  • Student’s Name
  • Student’s Accommodations
  • Course/Test
  • Exam code or password (if applicable)
  • Any other pertinent information

Faculty must book the proctoring room online just as they would book any other classroom – please do not call to book a proctoring room.

Protocol and Faculty Responsibilities:

Please deliver exams at least one day prior to the administration of the exam to a Learner Support Specialist.  The exam will be stored in a safe and secure location until the scheduled time for proctoring. After completion the faculty member will need to retrieve the exam from a Learner Support Specialist. If you are unable to pick up the exam during Learning Commons’ business hours please call to schedule other arrangements.

*The student may not walk in at any time and take the test. The student must work with faculty to arrange a test time, and the faculty member will work with the Learner Support Specialist to make testing arrangements. Once a time is determined, the student is expected to be present, on time, and prepared to take the test.

Faculty will give written permission to a Learner Support Specialist of what a student is allowed to use during the exam (i.e. calculators, highlighters, notes). Please include with the exam any handouts or allowed resources.

The role of the Learner Support Specialist: A Learner Support Specialist will provide students with their approved accommodations and enforce rules set forth in the exam. At the outset of the exam the Learner Support Specialist will collect the student’s personal belongings. Please keep in mind a Learner Support Specialist will not monitor a student continuously during the exam, but will check on the student periodically.

Exam proctoring for non-PA College students

The College is certified to proctor examinations by a number of colleges and universities. If you are unsure as to whether or not you may use the College for your testing site, please contact your school or College Learner Support Specialist Elizabeth Ashley prior to setting up a time to proctor.

Please note the College does not proctor major standardized exams such as SATs, GREs, etc. If you have questions about what tests we do proctor, please contact us.

If you require special software, hardware, or assistive technology to take your exam, please contact Elizabeth Ashley at 717-947-6113 to see if the College can accommodate your needs prior to following the steps below; if the College cannot accommodate your needs, you will need to find a different testing site.

Once you know you may use the College for your site, please complete the following steps at least two weeks prior to the date you hope to have your exam:

  • Order the exam from your institution and have it mailed to:
    Elizabeth Ashley
    Learner Support Specialist
Learning Commons, PA College of Health Sciences
    850 Greenfield Road
    Lancaster, PA 17601
  • Pay the proctoring fee online at: http://www.pacollege.edu/academics/resources/learning-resources/exam-proctoring/
  • When the exam arrives, Elizabeth will contact you to set up a time to take the exam and to determine any technology or other exam needs.

If you schedule an exam and need to reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. If you do not show up for your exam and do not reschedule, you will not be issued a refund for the exam. You will need to pay to schedule another time to take your exam.

In the event of inclement weather, the Learning Commons follows the College’s opening/closing schedule. Please feel free to call Learner Support Specialist Elizabeth Ashley at 717-947-6113 to confirm your scheduled exam or to let her know if you cannot make it due to the weather. If the College is closed or if you cannot make it due to the weather, you will not be penalized, and your exam will be rescheduled at no cost to you.

Exam Proctoring Late/No Shows

When you schedule an exam, the Learner Support Specialist blocks off this time on the calendar, thus it is imperative you are on time. If you are late, you will not be granted a time extension to complete your exam; for example, if your exam is scheduled for two hours and you are an hour late, you will only be allowed to have an hour of time for your exam unless you reschedule. Please note that the ability to reschedule your exam is at the discretion of your faculty member.

PA College students: If you know you will be late or unable to sit for the exam at the time scheduled, please provide as much notice as possible to reschedule. In the event of inclement weather, the Learning Commons follows the College’s opening/closing schedule. Please feel free to call Learner Support Specialist Elizabeth Ashley at 717-947-6113 to confirm your scheduled exam or to let her know if you cannot make it due to the weather. She will work with you to find an alternate time.

Non-PA College students: If you schedule an exam and need to reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice.

Exam Proctoring - Showing up Unprepared to Take the Exam

When you schedule an exam, the Learner Support Specialist blocks off this time on the calendar, thus it is imperative you show up on time and prepared. If you are unprepared to take the test (i.e. you need to bring a specific instrument such as a calculator with you) and you elect not to take the test, you must abide by your instructor's policies. If your instructor will not allow you to reschedule a test due to a lack of preparedness, then you will not be able to reschedule.
